Wintery Shoot and Studio

Been a while but I thought I need to start getting up to date with my blogging. It’s been hectic recently with Uni and the Studio on the weekends and its slowly getting there. Just a matter of making the £££ now.

But putting that for another blog post, today were on the topic of a very weird but awesome shoot. So together me and Imran got the lovely Fozia down from Bolton to epic Bradford and with the collaboration of Rani MUA we made some magic happen.

For all the days when I woke up on Saturday morning it was pleasantly snowing. So it was the perfect chance to do a winter shoot since I missed the chance to do so in January because I was really lazy :/

Anyways we got to the studio got the MUA really quickly in 3 hours (yay...) and then went off to a local golf course near my house. Me and Imran had a variety of setups in our heads but we both got what we wanted in the end. I was using a Canon 450D (Imran’s) and was mostly using a 50mm prime. The weather was brilliant as we got some heavy fog aswell and the lighting was fantastic as we got some really soft light on Fozia.

This first shot has to be one of my favourite. Natural Handheld and came out stunning.

A close up shot from the first one up and you can see the power and stillness in this shot. Looking like a real Ice Queen! We went for a real aggressive look on the shoot today for a high end fashion wintery look. It’s pulled off pretty well. As for the technical it was with natural light again and for this one we were just using a silver reflector camera left to bounce light beneath Fozia. I did use a lighting setup for one of the last looks on location but if I’m being honest the images we created without flash just came out so much more awesome! It just goes to show that you have to think creatively on hand and with conditions what will work and what won’t. Just because you have lighting gear with you doesn’t mean you have to use it!

In total I reckon we were on location for around an hour and a half. That’s all we could manage mainly because even though Fozia was fantastic and she really did have more cajones then me and Imran put together out there she was about to die near the end and even though I was wearing about 7 layers and thermals I think we were all feeling the cold at that point so we climbed back into the Punto and headed back to the studio.

Once we dried off our bodies and a quick change I started getting really friendly with a fan under Fozias face. She didn’t mind me but instead yelled at me to get closer with the damn thing. It seems I’ve been promoted from Photographer to Fanboy...

But it was only a standard so were gunna have to invest at something a little bit more awesome at some point.

Regardless it was a great day and I’ve slept in massively today to make up for the events unfolded. The images were taken through Lightroom initially as a part of my Chase Jarvis Workflow (more on that on a later post) main touches done up there and then as PSDs were shifted into Photoshop for the last touch ups to create these kick ass images you see here. I’ll run through a more detailed workflow on how I retouched these images later so you all can recreate the same style!

Anyways have a good one and stay warm!
